~ Jesus Is America’s
Freedom ~
by
Steve A. Politte

I look back in time so many years ago when I was
so very young. Our country was involved in a war, but
it was called a “conflict.” Still yet, to those who
fought it was a war, and to those who fought it was for the
cause so that our great nation could remain free, and our
flag could continue to wave in the breeze. Yes, it was
hard to see so many soldiers killed in Vietnam and also
badly injured, just as it was for those in other wars, but
we knew that it was the price that had to be paid in order
for us to remain a free nation, under God, indivisible, with
liberty and justice for all. Oh the government might
have had different reasons for us being there, but we knew in our hearts what the real reason was.
Today is a special day
as we celebration that time in our history that our country
was founded by our forefathers, those who originally fought
the battles and gave of their lives so that this United
States of America might be possible. There have been
barbecue’s and dinners, perhaps parades and picnics, and of
course fireworks across this country of ours. Perhaps
there were conversations about our country, about how we
came to be a free nation, about what it has taken to keep us
a free nation, and perhaps the very dismal way things look
today, as a new kind of leadership, certainly not one who seems, in
general, to cherish
our Constitution; the morals and values that our
founding fathers were so passionate about, that they choose
to fight the mightier England so that they could worship God
in there own way, as well as many other rights that were
written into that one awesome Constitution. And since that
time, we have had to fight time and time again to preserve
our way of life and those morals and values contained in our
Constitution. So many lives have been given, the ultimate
sacrifice, by so many men and women, so that we could be a
part of this great nation still yet today.
I wonder if people, in general today, even give thought to
where this freedom, our rights, and all that we hold so
dear, really comes from, that were held in such importance in
hearts and minds of those who founded our country.? I wonder
if they know that God’s only Son, our Lord Jesus Christ
suffered and died on a cross, close to 2000 years ago, give
or take few, so that we may be set free for all time and
eternal life would be possible for us all? I wonder if they
know that it was Jesus who was the first crusader for human
dignity, human life, freedom from oppression, who gave us a
reason to worship; who laid down the foundation of our
morals and values; who himself taught us what those were to
be, the two great commandments, and the beatitudes, which
primarily includes it all; a reason to fight for what we
have today in this country?
We are facing some very difficult times in this country, in
this world of ours today, and there is a reason my friends.
I am not just taking about a corrupt government and a
corrupt world, that is evident enough for all of us to see.
I am taking about corrupt souls and the realization that the
laws of God have been neglected, mostly in favor of our own
water downed Christianity of today. At least, that is how it
seems to me. Maybe I am wrong, I hope I am. But until us
free people start to put God first in our lives, in our
everyday lives, and to proclaim the gospel message of our
Lord Jesus Christ, to the people in our country who seem to
have lost sight of him, then nothing is really going to get
any better. And it has to start with me, and then you, and
then you, and then you, and on and on, until we realize
where our ultimate freedom comes from. And if we don’t, then
that Constitution will have been written in vain, and will
easily be replaced by our current administration, and any to
follow, if that even happens.
Yes, we are a proud nation, conceived with the idea that
equality and freedom of choice are essential in order to
establish and maintain a free society. We are an
ever-changing people, changed by traditions, customs,
environments, inventions, and wars, which have so frequently
prevailed among us. We are a people with different opinions,
ideals, beliefs, and different ways of expressing ourselves.
Yet, we are one people bound by the same Constitution, the
same Republic, Democracy, and the same American heritage.
And that heritage, that way of life we Americans seek today,
as in days gone past, has been subject to and has survived
many a perilous fight. It wasn’t meant to be destroyed by
today’s progressives, it was meant to grow in richness and
prosperity, in victory and peace. Is that not why so many
people, men and women, have died and sprinkled their blood
on American soil and the soil of other countries? Wasn’t it
to preserve, defend, and strengthen the hopes of future
generations? Our sorrows and misfortunes, our joys and
accomplishments, our adventures and experiences, these all
help in the molding of our personality and character, and
also that of our country and it’s future. As I have said, we
are the foundation of love and peace, or corruption and
disorder. We can, and have built a society to strengthen and
protect our way of life. We can continue to educate minds
and cultivate new ideals, ideals that foster success and
upholds friendships. We can do anything that we, as a
people, and as a country desire to do. The future of America
my look bleak, and the hopes of that future, whether it
lives or dies, prospers or decays, depend upon the
character, ability, and more importantly the moral
principles of those people who guide our ship of state.
On this Fourth of July day, 2010 – perhaps we should ask
what our hopes are for America’s future? Perhaps we should
hope that strength and courage abundant be given to all who
work and fight for a world of reason and understanding; that
the good that lies in the hearts of men and women be
harvested; that we will come to see more clearly, not that
which divides us, but that which unites us; that each hour
is one spent in living those morals and values that our Lord
taught us, so that a prosperous and worthwhile future may be
a goal worth striving for; that when we reach that
future as a people, we can be the reason for continuing what our
founding fathers established in freedom and peace, a
government strong, and with new ideals as it foundation; an
unselfish America - one that recognizes God as the source of
all hope, the inspiration of all right, and the defender of
all victory; so that those things which everyone seeks in
this life – freedom, love, and peace – may be a goal with an
ultimate and satisfying assurance. We commemorate those who
have sacrificed their lives, or those who have come to the
forefront in defending this great nation.
The seed of Democracy has been sown. It has grown to full
maturity and has produced a great crop, and if there are to
be hopes for a future America, perhaps that great crop must
be harvested so that the memory of our beloved founding
fathers and all of those who gave of their lives for this
America, will not have been in vain! But more importantly,
that people wake from their slumber and realize that our
only freedom comes from God, from his Son, who was the first
to lay down his life for all of humankind, for all
countries, for all future generations to come! And
lastly, if anything good is going to come, it will come only
if we pray! Prayer is the most powerful source we have
to reclaim our country, and God listens to our prayers, and
God wants us to pray to Him. Daily, we must commit
ourselves to prayer.
I pray that this message was meaningful to you. May God
bless you and may God continue to bless America!
